NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND OF NEBRASKA SENIOR DIVISION MEETING
SECRETARY's REPORT
Monday, September 11, 2023
The NFBN Senior Division met via Zoom on Monday, September 11, 2023.
President Robert Newman called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM CDT. Members
present were: President Robert Newman, Vice President Barbara Loos,
Secretary Linda Mentink, Treasurer Cheryl Livingston, Board Member Nancy
Oltman, Dorothy Babel, Chris Boone, Bob Burns, George Fischer, Melvin
Forster, Brad Loos, and Steve Senteney. Guests present were: Kathy Brahmer,
Deb Mauer, Eli Sidders, and Emily Sidders from Nebraska, Diane Vlasoff from
California, Jannis Butler from Maryland, and Barry Scheur from South
Carolina.
Chris recited our NFB Pledge. Bob will recite it next month.
Our guest speaker was Barry Scheur. He shared three lessons he has learned
in his various occupations, the history of many blindness products, how he
has gotten various leather products he now sells, and information about his
telescopic canes. He answered questions. Their contact information is: Barry
Scheur (617) 969-7500 <mailto:barry.scheur at gmail.com>
barry.scheur at gmail.com, or KaeAnn Rausch (781) 286-1696
<mailto:guidelightdogs at gmail.com> guidelightdogs at gmail.com. Their website

Linda read the August 8, 2023, Secretary's Report. There were no additions
or corrections, so it will become a part of the permanent record of the
organization.
Cheryl read the September 11, 2023, Treasurer's Report. It will become a
part of the financial record of the organization.
Robert mentioned doing the video, looking at the script and finding someone
to film it. He wants a list of those interested in helping. Brad and Barbara
were mentioned, as well as Jo. Chris would also like to be involved.
Regarding transportation to the next affiliate board meeting, Chris said
that a notice will be put on our listserv next week so that those who want
to go can get in on the transportation of the board members. She also said
we need to brainstorm about things to pursue to get people involved. She
will send out an email to see what kind of interest we get.
Nancy shared that Jerry Whitlow has been having some health problems. She
fell in her bathtub and broke her leg in August. She probably would
appreciate phone calls.
Barbara mentioned that there will be a meeting Wednesday in Lincoln to talk
about transportation.
Cheryl moved, Linda seconded, that we adjourn. The motion carried and we
adjourned at 8:49 PM CDT.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Mentink, Secretary
