She had extraordinarily little experience with blind people. The only blind person she knew was her brother, and he was forever using his blindness as an excuse for standing on the sidelines. This presentation provides the basics about Social Security Disability and SSI benefits - who is eligible, how much the benefit amount can be, income and asset limits, which medical benefits are provided and how to apply. Most importantly, the session explains how work affects these benefits, how to use safety nets called "work incentives" that help protect benefits when you work, how the work rules are better for blind people, and how to get free help using work incentives.
