The U.S. Department of Education has ended federal support for all national Braille Training Grants. These programs trained the professionals who teach braille and support independence for people who are blind or visually impaired. Why This Matters: Fewer trained teachers and therapists means fewer resources for you and others. This decision affects children, adults, and seniors across the country. Braille is literacy and literacy is independence. How You Can Help: Call your U.S. Senators and ask them to support braille literacy. Find your senators contact info. Speaking Points to your senators: Braille is essential for independence and access to education and employment. Eliminating these grants removes national support for training professionals who serve the blind and low vision community. This decision disproportionately harms people with sensory impairments.
