[Nebraska-students] How to Buy Braille Coins

Hi Hannah,

The Uncirculated are slightly less glossy and shiny. They're
typically--though not always--of slightly lesser value to collectors than
the proof version. The proof version, on the other hand, is double stamped
and has a mirror finish. Visually, they're quite appealing and if you can
keep them clean, the collectors may thank you greatly one day.

What we've been telling people is that if they want a coin that they can
carry around in their pocket and show to others, they should pick up an
Uncirculated coin. If they want one they can keep tucked safely away for
future generations, they should buy a proof version. It is possible to pry a
proof coin out of its capsule and touch it a lot, but then you have to keep
in mind things like how to wash the coin after, how to handle the coin to
minimize damage, etc.

If you wanted, you could also do the really fun thing and buy one of each!
This assuming you're one of those rare, rich college students.

I hope this helps.

Ryan

This may sound silly, but could someone explain what exactly the difference
is between "proof" and "uncirculated"?
Thanks,
Hannah L
