Blind Equality Achievement Month (BEAM)
#BlindMonth
Remember history. Advance equality. Celebrate accomplishments.
Formerly known as Meet the Blind Month, the National Federation of the Blind
celebrates the organized blind movement during October. Throughout the
month, our members conduct a variety of outreach activities in our local
communities.
This year the National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska will kick off
Blind Equality Achievement Month on October 5, 2024 with a state-wide 5K
walk! This walk will demonstrate the abilities of blind Nebraskans!
How will it work?
Members will walk in their own community with other members, friends, family
or neighbors. The Greater At-Large, Lincoln and Omaha Chapters are planning
routes/activities in their areas and welcome anyone to join them. Specific
details on each chapter's walk will be sent soon.
What is it for?
To educate the public and demonstrate our independence! No registration fee
will be collected this year, this is purely an educational event.
How do I participate?
Plan a route to walk in your community around 5K. Begin the walk at 10:00
a.m. Central if possible. Contact President Richey with the details of your
walk, including who you will walk with, so information can be posted on the
affiliate and national websites.
Mark your calendars and plan to participate in the state-wide Walk for
Independence!
