Good afternoon fellow NFB Nevada Federationists and friends,
We are thrilled to share the exciting news that the National Federation of the Blind of Nevada held our first-ever STEM2U Academy this past Saturday, August 24, 2024, in Sparks, NV! Despite the cold and rainy weather, the event was a tremendous success, filled with learning, creativity, and fun.

We had the pleasure of welcoming four blind middle school students from Washoe County to our Academy, where they engaged in a series of hands-on demonstrations and experiments. The students explored the fascinating world of astronomy by launching rockets, creating tactile representations of nebulas, and building their own models of the James Webb Telescope. The enthusiasm and curiosity displayed by the students were truly inspiring.

A special thanks and heartfelt congratulations go to our STEM coordinators, Regina Mitchell and Skye Dunfield, for their outstanding work in organizing this event. We also extend our gratitude to Susan Moore for making the journey from Southern Nevada to Sparks, ensuring the event's success.

We are already looking forward to next year's STEM Academy, where we plan to expand the program across the Silver State, providing even more students with the opportunity to explore the exciting possibilities of a STEM career.

Lastly, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living for providing the perfect location for this memorable event.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this day so special!

Best regards,

Mark Tadder
President
National Federation of the Blind of Nevada
