A lot of the time, us cynics of the Congress will say "Don't they have
better things to do?" or "They're really wasting the tax-payers'
money". Weeell, unfortunately, here's an issue that I personally feel
is up there, but sadly is no less important than other events going
on.

Please read below, and keep in mind that while it seems rediculously
silly on the front, it could impact personal enjoyment of priveleges
as it could easily open the door to other events being lumped in with
this decision. (The foundation of a body of law is precedent, no
matter how rediculous or personally repulsive).

Many thanks for your time

Andrew

ADA Access to Public Swimming Pools Under Attack!!
Please Contact Senators Ayotte and Shaheen NOW!!

FROM AN ALERT SENT BY THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES:

Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) is calling for the Senate to vote at 5:30
today to pass legislation that would exclude public pools from the
ADA's requirement that public accommodations are accessible.

That's right-21 years after the ADA we could see our rights rolled back.

We need to act today.

Contact your U.S. senators today!!

You can call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
A switchboard operator will connect you directly with the Senate
office you request.
If you don't know the names of the two senators who represent your
state, you can find them at
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm<http://power.aapd.com/site/R?i=mYG1RAX5UvWaOtrnFO0WAg>

That site also lists your senators' email addresses.

Here's what your senators need to know:

* Swimming pools are not a luxury; they are
part of American life. Every family deserves the chance to enjoy
vacations together without leaving a child, spouse, or parent behind
just because they have a disability.

* People with disabilities have the same rights as everyone else to
use swimming pools.

* Backtracking on the ADA is never acceptable.

* We cannot roll back civil rights for any group.

* The ADA was signed into law 22 years ago. Swimming pool owners have
had decades to come into compliance.

* The final regulation language and the
accessibility standards have been out since September 2010, so the
pool owners have had 18 months to comply with those specific

* The regulations are subject to an "undue burden" defense, so any
hotel or pool owner that cannot afford to come into compliance need
not do so immediately.
