All programs listed below are free of charge. The Andrew Heiskell Braille
and Talking Book Library is located at 40 West 20th Street, New York, NY
10011 between 5th and 6th Avenues. Call the library at 212-206-5400 for
more information about any of our April events.

Computer Support Clinic - every Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Need some computer literacy tutoring or help with accessibility software?
Volunteer tutors are available to answer basic questions and provide
assistance with email, sharing pictures, blogging, downloading audio books,
configuring and using accessibility software, and more. Appointments are
necessary. Call 347-632-8383 to register.

Family Storytime - every Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Friday, April 4 at 11:15
a.m.
Children (accompanied by a favorite adult) will enjoy songs, finger plays
and books. Story time will give your child the opportunity to hear language
while interacting with other children their age. Ages 0-4 welcome!

Citizens Advisory Council Meeting - Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m.
Show your support for your library, learn more about library services and
programs, meet members of the staff, and provide your ideas and insights on
ways to improve the library's programs and services. All patrons are
welcome.

NLS Digital Book Player & BARD Workshop - Tuesday, April 8, 2014, 2 p.m.
Learn how to use the advanced features of both the Standard and Advanced
model NLS Digital Talking Book Machine players. The workshop includes a
demonstration on downloading books from BARD and a discussion of
library-issued and commercial book players. Attendance is limited, so
please register by phone (212-206-5400), email (talkingbooks at nypl.org), or
in person.

Fragrance Workshop with Art Beyond Sight <http://www.artbeyondsight.org/> -
Tuesday, April 8 at 2:30 p.m.
In this workshop on the history of fragrances and perfumes, attendees will
make their own hand-cream, lip balm or scent box. All supplies provided.

Creative Writing Workshop - Saturdays, April 12, 19, 26 and May 3 at 2 p.m.
A new 4-session creative writing workshop is being held at the Andrew
Heiskell Library in partnership with the New York Writer's Coalition
(NYWC)<http://nywriterscoalition.org/>.
The leader of the workshop will be NYWC founder and executive director
Aaron Zimmerman. Attendees will discover the value of their own stories.
This is a great opportunity for library members to get to meet and support
their fellow writers. Registration is required. Participants are requested
to commit to attending all four sessions. Register by calling

Guide Dog Users of New York Meeting - Saturday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m.
You are cordially invited to attend a very special meeting of Guide Dog
Users of New York,  The organization needs to take a short part of the
meeting to conduct the business of electing new officers and directors.
Time will be given for any general guide dog questions participants may
have. Perhaps you are wondering if a guide dog is right for you. Folks in
GDUNY will be most happy to answer your questions.  We will also discuss
 the book "Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend" written by Susan Orlean,
prominent writer in "New Yorker" magazine.

Training Workshop: the BARD App for Mobile Devices - Tuesday, April 15 at 2
p.m.
The BARD Mobile application, or "app" for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch
is free to download and easy to use. Library patrons with a BARD account
can use it to download audiobooks, braille books and magazines onto their
device and to access items directly from these devices. Training in the use
of this iOS app is available to Andrew Heiskell Library members and their
helpers. Attendance is limited, so please register by phone (212-206-5400),
email (talkingbooks at nypl.org), or in person.

Book Discussion Group: *Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet *by Jamie
Ford - Saturday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m.
Do you enjoy reading good books? Do you wish you had someone to discuss
them with? The group meets to discuss thought-provoking books every other
month.

Teleconference Book Discussion: *Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and
Sweet*by Jamie Ford - Tuesday, April 22 at 11 a.m.
If you can't make our meeting at the Library consider participating by
phone. Please call the library at 212-206-5400 to register and receive the
participant call-in number.

Stargardt Networking/Support Group - Saturday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m.
Networking groups are a great place for individuals who are affected with
low vision to share coping skills, gain new friends, offer emotional
support and exchange resources and information. This group is sponsored by
Foundation Fighting Blindness, but participation is open to all affected by
Stargardt disease.
