Subject: Lavelle Fund for the Blind -- Executive Director Job Announcement

Greetings,

Please see the message below from the Lavelle Fund for the Blind’s Board President Daniel Callahan regarding the Executive Director job posting at the Fund. Thank you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Lavelle Fund stakeholder,

You may know that Andy Fisher has decided to retire next spring after nearly 20 years as the Lavelle Fund’s first executive director. The Fund is therefore now beginning a search for his successor. In this connection, we’d greatly appreciate your reviewing the attached Lavelle Fund E.D. job description with an eye to considering whether someone you know may be qualified and interested.

You’ll see that the position entails a broad mix of responsibilities in grantmaking, staff leadership, board support, and community collaboration. It also requires:

a.. Experience in foundation and/or nonprofit leadership, preferably in the Tri-State New York area.

a.. Experience in or strong familiarity with the vision field and international humanitarian work, together with a passion for the Lavelle Fund’s mission of supporting programs that help people who are blind or at risk of vision loss live independent, productive lives.

a.. A mix of strong analytical, communication, and financial skills.

The position’s salary is competitive, and its benefits are generous.

We ask that interested candidates please send their resumes, together with a one- to two-page cover letter highlighting their key qualifications, directly to Ms. Khanh Phan, the Lavelle Fund’s Grants Manager and Special Assistant (ktphan at lavellefund.org), by Monday, July 1, 2019. The Board Search Committee that I chair will interview leading candidates in September and early October and recommend 1-2 top candidates for review and final selection by the Fund’s Board on October 30th. The new executive director-designate would then join the Fund full-time in early January 2020, working alongside Andy for a few months until he retires.

Thank you very much for helping in this important search.

Sincerely,

Daniel M. Callahan

Daniel M. Callahan

Board President
