POSITION TITLE: Vision Rehabilitation Therapist - VRT (Full Time)
Certification Required
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Primary responsibilities of the role are to assist
youth/adults who are visually impaired or blind with support, guidance and
techniques to safely live in their environment.
* Assist in use of compensatory skills that will enable individuals to
live safe and interdependent lives.
* Enable persons of all ages who are visually impaired or blind living
throughout the lower Hudson Valley region to lead safe and independent lives
* Orient individuals to their surrounding and daily living tasks
(transportation, personal care, living skills, school)
* Meet with individual and family on personal goals and skills that
need to be addressed
* Recognize and address each individual's needs or daily activities
that may cause potential struggles
POSITION TITLE: Orientation & Mobility Instructor - O&M (Full Time)
Certification Required
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Primary responsibilities of the role are to assist
youth/adults who are visually impaired or blind with support, guidance and
assistance to achieve independence safely in their community and
surroundings.
* Evaluate and assess personal needs and environment of each
individual
* Instruct individual and family on how to navigate or travel safely
within the home and community
* Orient individuals with techniques to prepare for challenges and
barriers in the school, home job placement and community
* Teach techniques and awareness of each individual's surroundings to
achieve personal confidence and independence
POSITION TITLE: Teacher of the Visually Impaired - TVI (Full Time)
Certification Required
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Primary responsibilities of the role are to assist
children and youth who are visually impaired or blind with supportive
services for the student, family and school.
* Coordinate each child's goals and needs with school professionals
* Consult with special education staff on programs and services to
ensure individual needs are being met
* Provide training for teachers and staff on individual child's needs
and goals
* Offer recommendations and modifications in the classroom for each
child
* Maintains daily session notes, progress reports/notes in a timely
manner
