January 18:  A Shot in the Dark by Anthony Ferraro

Monday, January 18, 2021, 8:30 PM – 9:30 PM EDT

Anthony Ferraro is a Paralympic wrestler and judo master who is blind. Anthony began wrestling in middle school and after a successful high school wrestling career, he was on his way to wrestle competitively in college. In January 2017, he started judo training to fulfill his dream of representing the United States at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. In 2018, Anthony was the subject of the documentary “A Shot in the Dark” which highlighted his wrestling journey and life story. In addition to wrestling and judo, he is an accomplished guitar player and motivational speaker around the country.

During his talk, Anthony will discuss his journey as an athlete who is blind and how he overcame obstacles that helped shape the successful man he is today. He will highlight what is was like growing up blind, the challenges he faced with the education system, and will provide strategies for parents to encourage and support independence for children with visual impairment.

The Tele-Support Presentations program provides information about topics related to parenting a child with vision loss. Topics are selected by parents who participate in the Parent Tele-Support Program and include child development, education, advocacy, among others. Presentations are given by experts in the field of blindness and visual impairment.
