Subject: Outreach Email for Teen Stokers
Hello Administrators and Teens,
Do you know any teenagers/clients who are blind or have low-vison and want to ride a bike? Well look no further than InTandem Youth!
InTandem Bike is a non-profit based in NYC whose mission is to provide free year-round tandem cycling programs for people who are blind, have low vision, or cannot ride independently due to other disabilities.
We are excited to launch our initiative: InTandem Youth. Through this program, college bound high school students who are fully sighted will be paired up with college bound high school students who are blind or have low vision as tandem teams who will cycle on a tandem bike together in Central Park. By cycling together, the tandem teams will engage in a physical exercise and build new social connections in the safe and empowering environment InTandem Bike has created.
We are looking for 5-8 students/clients who would be ideal to be trained as Stokers (cyclists who are blind or have low-vision and ride on the back seat of a tandem bike) to be a part of InTandem Youth. Ideal Stokers include students who are interested in riding bikes and are good decision-makers, patient, team-oriented, and effective communicators. Like all Captains and Stokers for our programs, teens participating in InTandem Youth will receive the training and supervision needed to have a safe, responsible, and fun time.
Being a Stoker is a rewarding experience and is a fantastic way to complete community service hours. Additionally, tandem cycling offers the chance to demonstrate effective leadership, communication, and teamwork, and InTandem Youth is a great way for students to develop these key skills. Your students/clients will also be contributing to our organization that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion through tandem cycling.
Since InTandem Bike was founded in 2013, our community of cyclists have pedaled over 150,000 miles. With the opportunity to partner with your school/organization, students/clients would be joining a dedicated initiative to ensure no one who wants to cycle is left on the sidelines.
