The Ultimate College Prep Class for Music Programs: Get Organized, Get Prepared!
Instructor: Michelle Trovato, Leslie Jones
Day and Time: Thursday, 5:00 PM (EDT)
Dates: July 7, July 14, July 21 and July 28
Prepare for the daunting task of applying to college music programs with this 4-week class. Each student will select 5 different colleges or universities to which they would like to apply, and our course will help them get organized for the many materials and deadlines for those 5 schools. Specially designed to assist students with vision loss, students will receive an accessible tracker with a checklist to help them update and keep track of the many elements involved in the application process. The class will help students compile information for references, learn how to get transcripts from your school, discover who to contact for accessible auditions at their prospective schools and get their information, find connections to teachers at the colleges and universities to which they’re going to apply, and keep track of it all and more with our custom-made College Tracker, which is accessible and can be updated by the student. As part of the class, we will also help select the appropriate repertoire that fulfills the schools’ requirements (in conjunction with their teacher) and the final class will conclude with a photo shoot so the student will have a new headshot to present as part of their college application and for their personal use.

Throughout the past few decades, hip-hop has been a growing and dominating genre in main-stream music. In this four-week class, students will learn how hip-hop started out in the early 70s, how it grew in the main stream into the 80s, up until the twenty-first century. Students will learn the different artists of each decade, and how each of these artists contributed to the hip-hop genre. Such artists will include DJ Kool Herc, Grand Master Flash, Run-DMC, Queen Latifah, The Notorious B.I.G, and others. Students will also understand the different characteristics of hip-hop such as the rhythms, technologies used in creating hip-hop music, type of fashion etc. Students will also come up with our own rap song at the end of the four week course.
Best,
