Hi all,
See below info about the upcoming Braille Challenge. Students outside of NYC
or even from other states can attend. They are also ok with older VI adults
attending and even doing the test without being placed in the official
contest. This is a great opportunity and I hope many of you will join-I will
be there with my son and some students. keep me posted if you will come as
well. (although the deadline was officially on Dec. 22 to sign up they are
still accesping registration)
The Braille Challenge is where students compete in activities (much like a
spelling bee but for braille). The parents attend workshops and panels. It's
a big day of learning and celebration.
We have an organization room where organizations who provide services for
our students can set up at a table and network with families, vision
teachers, students, and other community members.
This year's event is a big one. We will have new vendors (APH, Camp
Abilities, the FMDG Music School, and Blind Hockey will be there, just to
name a few). We will have a speaker from HumanWare and a panel of newly
graduated college students with visual impairments for the parents. We will
have the NYPD Marching band marching the students in, and we will have a
FDNY fire truck for the students to touch and explore. Not to mention Camp
Abilities will be doing a tutorial of some accessible games. It will be an
exciting day.

Registration is a Google survey and entirely digital/accessible.
We are having the event on Sunday this year to make it accessible to
families who previously could not attend when it was on a Saturday.
Let me know if y'all need anything.
All my gratitude,
Jonathan
