My feeling is that, in my daily dealings with the public, as a Professor of Psychology, and as a Nikken Wellness Consultant, and as a father of four children, married to a blind woman, and a longtime resident of Kelowna, the public is much better than that portrayed in the article. All of this needs to be put into the proper perspective, which the article didn’t do. I think that this article makes it harder for blind people to simply go out with confidence, trusting that we will be able to interact with the public on terms of equality. That trust and confidence has to come from within. In this case, we hold the deck of cards. The public will react the way it thinks that it should, given our own control of situations all around us. Anyway, that’s how I choose to function, and it works well for me. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'>All The Best<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'>Paul Gabias PhD LLD<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><div><div style='border:none;border-top:solid #B5C4DF 1.0pt;padding:3.0pt 0cm 0cm 0cm'><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif"'>From:</span></b><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif"'> New-york-news [<a href="mailto:new-york-news-bounces@nfbnet.org">mailto:new-york-news-bounces@nfbnet.org</a>] <b>On Behalf Of </b>cheryl echevarria<br><b>Sent:</b> January-09-14 4:33 AM<br><b>To:</b> <a href="mailto:new-york-news@nfbnet.org">new-york-news@nfbnet.org</a><br><b>Subject:</b> [New-york-news] Why do we fear the blind story from NY Times<o:p></o:p></span></p></div></div><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:16.0pt'>Good morning all:</span><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p></o:p></span></p><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:16.0pt'>This is a story published in the NY Time on January 5,</span><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:16.0pt'>Why do we fear the Blind?</span><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/05/opinion/sunday/why-do-we-fear-the-blind.html?smid=tw-nytimes&_r=1" target="_blank"><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/05/opinion/sunday/why-do-we-fear-the-blind.html?smid=tw-nytimes&_r=1</span></a><span style='font-size:16.0pt'><br id=FontBreak><br></span><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p></o:p></span></p><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>Disabled Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 of NY State<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>Offering the Best in Meaningful Travel Experiences for Everyone!<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span lang=FR-CA style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>Cheryl Echevarria, Owner<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><a href="http://www.echevarriatravel.com" target="_blank"><span lang=FR-CA style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>www.echevarriatravel.com</span></a><span lang=FR-CA style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>631-456-5394<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><a href="mailto:reservations@echevarriatravel.com"><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>reservations@echevarriatravel.com</span></a><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>Sign up for our e-newsletter by e-mailing us you first and last name, and e-mail address to </span><a href="mailto:reservations@echevarriatravel.com"><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>reservations@echevarriatravel.com</span></a><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>, let us know if you want just text or pictures in your e-mail.<o:p></o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>Echevarria Travel has partnered with Braille Smith. </span><a href="http://www.braillesmith.com" target="_blank"><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>www.braillesmith.com</span></a><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'> for all her braille needs.
