Hi All:

If you attended the board meeting at our last state convention, you may
recall that Chancey Fleet spoke about this upcoming hearing. Eva Eason is
the lead plaintiff. This is a class action lawsuit against the state arising
out of the inaccessibility of its absentee voting application process to
blind and visually impaired computer users.

Both sides have filed for summary judgment, meaning that they believe the
Judge should rule in their favor as a matter of law. Everyone has submitted
briefs, and the purpose of the Tuesday hearing is for the attorneys to stand
up before the Judge and persuade her that they are right.

We need people, especially blind people, in the court room so that the Judge
knows that we care about accessible technology. We have several outstanding
attorneys representing us, including Dan Goldstein, who has advocated for
blind people for over twenty-five years. I know Dan, and I can't wait to see
him in action. We also have a very good Judge, and we stand an excellent
chance of winning. But she needs to see us there!

We should arrive between 1:00 and 1:30, and be prepared to be there as late
as 5:00. The address is 500 Pearl Street in lower Manhattan. It is Judge
Forrest's courtroom, on the 23rd floor.

There is an entrance to the building on Worth Street, and this is much
closer to the subway, about a block from the Brookly Bridge station on the
4, 5, and 6 trains.

We will have to check all electronic devices, that is, cell phones, Braille
Senses, laptops, etc., at the security desk in the lobby.

It would be helpful to know how many people to expect. If you can attend, or
have any questions, please email me or call me at (718) 491-0053, evenings
or on the weekend.

Hope to see a lot of you there!

Ray
