This email concerns results in the United States Senate and House of Representatives. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was re-elected to the United States Senate. There were 5 new members from New York elected to the United States House of Representatives. They are Joseph Morelle, Max Rose, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Antonio Delgado and Anthony Brindisi. All 5 are Democrats. The following is some brief biographical information on these new members of the House. Most of the information was gathered from Wikipedia and ballotpedia. For Mr. Delgado, the information is from his website. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Joseph Morelle was elected to the 25<sup>th</sup> district. This is the district formerly held by Louise Slaughter. Louise Slaughter died on March 16, 2018. Joseph Morelle, 61, has served as the New York Assembly Majority Leader since January 1, 2013. Morrele was born in Utica. He grew up in the town of Irondequoit. He has a bachelors degree in political science from SUNY Geneseo. Morrele worked as a salesman for a drycleaning and laundry business. He has served in the Assembly since January, 1991 and as majority leader since 2013. In the Assembly, he has served on economic development, job creation, tourism, commerce and industry, higher education and libraries and education technology committees. Morrele lives in Irondequoit. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Max Rose was elected to the 11th district. He defeated Dan Donovan. Max Rose, 31, was born and grew up in Brooklyn. Rose has a BA in history from Wesleyan University. He has a masters in philosophy and public policy from the London School of Economics. He served in the Army for 5 years active duty and in the reserves for 5 years. Rose was a platoon leader in Afghanistan. He received the bronze star and the purple heart. After leaving military service, Mr. Rose served as director of public engagement for Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson. He was later the chief of staff at Brightpoint Health, a nonprofit operator of medical clinics in New York City. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was elected to the 14<sup>th</sup> district. She defeated Joseph Crowley in the democratic primary in June. On November 6, she defeated the Republican candidate, Anthony Pappas. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is 29 years old. She is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. She was born in the Bronx. When she was 5, her family moved to Yorktown Heights, a suburb in Westchester county. She regularly visited her extended family in the Bronx. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez graduated from Yorktown High School in 2007. In college, she was an intern for Senator Ted Kennedy. She graduated from Boston University with a bachelors degree in economics. She established a publishing firm, Brook Avenue Press, which specializes in childrens literature. She worked as lead educational strategist at Gageis, inc. Ocasio-Cortez was also an educator at the nonprofit National Hispanic Institute. In 2016, she worked as an organizer for the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Antonio Delgado was elected to the 19<sup>th</sup> district. He defeated John Faso. He was born and raised in Schenectady. He attended Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. He was then a Rhodes scholar to Oxford. He later attended Harvard law school. Mr. Delgado and his wife, Lacey, live in Rhinebeck. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Anthony Brindisi was elected to the 22<sup>nd</sup> district. He defeated Claudia Tenney. Mr. Brindisi, 31, was born in Utica. He has a bachelors degree in history from Siena College. He has a J.D. (Juris Doctor) from Albany Law School. Mr. Brindisi has served in the New York Assembly. He was first elected to the Assembly in a special election on September 13, 2011. He worked as a partner at Brindisi, Murad, Brindisi, Pearlman, Julian and Pertz. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>There was a recent article in the New York Times which described the ranking democratic members of some House committees. The article was published one week before the election. The article was noting that, if the Democrats took the majority in the 2018 elections, these senior Democrats would become committee chairmen. Jerrold Nadler is expected to be chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Nita Lowey is expected to be chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee. Eliot Engel is expected to become chairman of the House Foreign Relations Committee. In January, the New York delegation to the House of Representatives will be 21 Democrats and 6 Republicans. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>1<sup>st</sup> District- Lee Zeldin ® was re-elected. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>2<sup>nd</sup> district-Peter King ® was re-elected. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>3<sup>rd</sup> district-Thomas Suozzi (D) was re-elected. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>4<sup>th</sup> district- Kathleen Rice (D) was re-elected. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>5<sup>th</sup> district- Gregory Meeks (D) was re-elected. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>6<sup>th</sup> district- Grace Meng (D) was re-elected. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>7<sup>th</sup> district- Nydia Velazquez (D) was re-elected. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>8<sup>th</sup> district- Hakeem Jeffries (D) was re-elected. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>9<sup>th</sup> district- Yvette Clarke (D) was re-elected. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>10<sup>th</sup> district- Jerrold Nadler (D) was re-elected. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>11<sup>th</sup> district- Max Rose (D) was elected.
