I am interested in attending national convention in New Orleans this July. I have a family gathering the weekend of the 9th so I’m kind of sitting on the fence. I know of a few folks who are going for like an entire week. If I were to go, I’d be considering going from around the 7th through the 11th.I’ve looked into flights, and I think I have enough points to fly without it costing me the cash. I’d also be open to riding down to New Orleans in a vehicle, and chipping in on cost of that. Or riding back to Little Rock in a vehicle with folks who are returning on that Monday. I haven’t registered or reserved a hotel room yet. I did call the two hotels and found out that the rooms in the Sheraton that have two beds, the beds are double sized, and the rooms in the Marriot that have 2 beds, the beds are queen size. The rate is the same for either hotel. For a tall person, this type of thing matters!!! When I called the Marriott, the person said there’s no penalty if canceling the room before, I think he said June 1. I had heard that there was half of one nights room rate kept as a penalty for a cancellation. Does anyone know the definitive answer on this part?

I personally don’t get that into the virtual version of convention. I think it would be much more impactful to be there in person. And really, with the option for me to attend a family gathering that same weekend, I’d be kidding myself if I think I would actually tune in to much of the convention if I don’t go in person.

So, all of this to say, I am writing to see if there happens to be others who have just been thinking about going who I don’t already know about. I may end up deciding that this is not the year for me to make this happen. I’m not completely opposed to traveling down there independently, but really just trying to assess what others are thinking or doing.

Thanks to anyone who is willing to respond, by replying to this message, or if you’d rather contact me directly, my email address is crsh at att.net
