Tanya thank you for your explanation! I am hoping that for the next national convention we will be able to plan for a better time table and transportation. At least there will be the virtual capability!

It is taking the full village with all hands on deck to help keep my dad out of the nursing home, so I think I had better stay close to home. Also, if I go, I would be adding to my mother’s worries and responsibilities.

>> I am interested in attending national convention in New Orleans this July. I have a family gathering the weekend of the 9th so I’m kind of sitting on the fence. I know of a few folks who are going for like an entire week. If I were to go, I’d be considering going from around the 7th through the 11th.I’ve looked into flights, and I think I have enough points to fly without it costing me the cash. I’d also be open to riding down to New Orleans in a vehicle, and chipping in on cost of that. Or riding back to Little Rock in a vehicle with folks who are returning on that Monday. I haven’t registered or reserved a hotel room yet. I did call the two hotels and found out that the rooms in the Sheraton that have two beds, the beds are double sized, and the rooms in the Marriot that have 2 beds, the beds are queen size. The rate is the same for either hotel. For a tall person, this type of thing matters!!! When I called the Marriott, the person said there’s no penalty if canceling the room before, I think he said June 1. I had heard that there was half of one nights room rate kept as a penalty for a cancellation. Does anyone know the definitive answer on this part?

And really, with the option for me to attend a family gathering that same weekend, I’d be kidding myself if I think I would actually tune in to much of the convention if I don’t go in person.

I may end up deciding that this is not the year for me to make this happen. I’m not completely opposed to traveling down there independently, but really just trying to assess what others are thinking or doing.
