I am seeking the position of First Vice President on the Affiliate Board of
the National Federation of the Blind of Arkansas. I am committed to a
successful term and to working as part of a unified team that advances our
shared vision of changing lives and transforming what it means to be blind.
I previously served on the NFB of Arkansas Affiliate Board from 2023
through 2025 and am eager to continue strengthening our presence across the
state. I believe in working together to build a strong, cohesive
organization that effectively shares the message that blind people can live
the lives we want.

When I identify opportunities for improvement, I take initiative and become
directly involved. I care deeply about creating meaningful change in our
community and across Arkansas that benefits blind individuals. I have been
a strong advocate for the rights of my son since 1999, when he became
legally blind at age seven, and this experience has further shaped my
commitment to advocacy and equality.

I own a well-established small business, giving me decades of experience
collaborating with others, building partnerships, and serving on committees
and boards. I am the sole person responsible for all social media and
publicity for Cantrell Gallery.

Within the Federation, I have demonstrated leadership by chairing and being
involved with a number of the successful statewide fundraisers. The
flagship publication of the NFB, the Braille Monitor has published several
articles I wrote. And I was a guest on the Nation’s Blind podcast.

The fall of 2023, I was invited to and attended Presidential Leadership
Seminar, led by President Mark Riccobono, in the Jernigan Institute in
Baltimore.

My additional leadership experience includes currently serving on the
operations board for World Services for the Blind.

I understand that service on the NFB of Arkansas Affiliate Board requires
consistent participation, collaboration, and a strong commitment to the
work of the Federation, including attending monthly board meetings, serving
on committees, supporting fundraising efforts, and fully engaging in state
convention. I will actively and reliably fulfill these responsibilities.

I respectfully ask to be nominated from the floor at the 2026 State
Convention in Conway on the weekend of April 18.

Will you commit to join me, so you can participate in the exciting plans
for the National Federation of the Blind of Arkansas?

Thank you for your consideration,

Cindy Scott-Huisman
