[NFB-Blind-Crafters] Need knitting help

I am making a tank top, top down. I've made tank tops and vests this way
many times. I use an invisible cast on, aka a provisional cast on. I did
the front and joined the 2 straps, knitting a bit, then picked up the cast
on to go the other way and do the back before joining. So far, so good.
But, when I join the back part of the straps, casting on the number of
stitches I need, it always gets twisted. It feels straight. I check it
carefully to see it's straight. But I knit a couple rows and it's twisted.
I've tried it probably 4 times, and it's twisted every single darn time.
Why? Why oh why oh why?
I tried doing the cast on as simple backward loop-twisted. I tried using
the cable cast on-twisted again.
I'm at my wit's end. I guess I can disconnect, knit it flat, and join with
Kitchener, but I'd really rather not.
Ideas?
Tracy
