[NFB-Blind-Crafters] Need advice - making a horn

I need to make cow horns, around 3-4 inches long, for a simple costume I'm
making. I think I'll crochet them. It seems easier to control the shape
with crochet than with knitting, even though I know knitting better.
They need to attach to a hat. I think I need a horizontal ring, then go up
a little and increase on one side until my ring becomes vertical, so the
horn starts going out to the side. Then after a bit start decreasing and at
the end turn the horn again so the end sticks up.
I'm thinking mostly single crochet, with half-doubles to make the turns.
Then stuff the horn.
I could make it diagonally instead, but that's more like a goat horn than a
cow.
I know there are great crochet people here, and I'd welcome opinions and
advice.
