Good. I’m glad it helped. We’ll help you learn how to use a pattern, and then a whole new world will open up for you. Although it can be fun to create something without a written pattern, too.

I’ll send a reminder on the day of the class, and I’ll try to say the times in other parts of the country.

I’ve never done anything with a pattern before. Shows you how much of a beginner I am! I’m looking forward to this. I just help remember the time. Wisconsin is different than out east and usually I remember the day not the time. Hopefully now with my family stuff settled, I can focus on the future and not saying goodbye to relatives.

Thank you again for the clarifications! Your explanation made the pattern you spelled out, make more sense. It’s the combo that made the difference. :-)

You’re knitting a border of knit1, purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, knit 1 on each side. For the first 7 rows, you do knit1 purl1 all the way across. For row 8 you do knit across in the middle, and for row 9 you do purl across in the middle. There’s no color changing, at least not yet, and then only if you want to..

I thought I was making it simpler, but apparently not. Here is the pattern with every stitch written out.

Cast on 45

Work 7 rows of (K1,P1) to last stitch, K1

Row 8: K1, P1, K1, P1, K37, P1, K1, P1, K1

Row 9 and All Odd Numbered Rows: K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P35, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1

Can you clarify a little here? To me it seems like you’re only doing the sides when you say border stitches. That confuses the heck out of me. I’ve only met across. I’ve never changed color in the middle of a row unless it was just trying to use up yarn, so it was more random than intentional to make a washcloth.

Thanks for the help and clarification. If I’m crazy that’s OK. I just want to hear the truth. I’d like to try this project.

To anyone who wants to join me to knit the snowman square on September 9, please do the following before the class.

Cast on 45 stitches.

Rows 1-7: knit 1, purl 1 across the row, ending with knit 1.

Row 8: Work a border of 5 stitches, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, then knit 35 stitches and work the border on the last 5 border stitches, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1.

I’m placing a marker after the beginning border stitches and another before the ending border stitches, so I know where to change without having to count.

Row 9: Work 5 border stitches, purl 35, work 5 border stitches.

Now we’re ready to start the snowman!

Tracy
