Hi Sarah and all.

For knitting patterns, I always check that it says “written instructions” or “all charts have written instructions”. If it doesn’t say that, I don’t buy it.

Lion Brand seems good at making sure their patterns have written instructions, at least so far as I’ve seen looking at their patterns recently.

Crocheters tell me that crochet patterns almost always have written instructions, and that’s been true for the few crochet patterns I’ve bought, though some have pictures showing how to put things together.

I’d be interested to hear others’ comments on this.

There’s a website of accessible online patterns called accessiblepatterns. Google will find it for you, if you’re interested.

Hi ReNae,

How do you know if the pattern will be screenreader accessible before you buy it? Or do you not need a screenreader? Just asking because I’m always hesitant to buy patterns online because I’m afraid they won’t be accessible for me.

Thanks and happy crafting!

Sarah

Good job! I just went shopping for patterns on Etsy. I’m in trouble. 😉 I purchased a baby bear onesie pattern for my soon to come granddaughter! So stinkin cute!

I’ve been working on my Tree of Life sweater for a while, and I just now finished the first sleeve! And it lines up like it will fit the armhole! This is a big deal, since I ignored a lot of the pattern’s sleeve instructions and did what I thought would be more like what I want. And, somewhat to my surprise, it seems to have worked. Now all I have to do is make the second sleeve to match.

What a drag, to have to make a whole other sleeve, but at least I have a template now.
