It sits on the needle like a stitch marker does.
So on my needles I have the first 3 stitches which are my border stitches,
then the link of the chain, and the rest of the stitches.
I knit the 3 stitches, then insert the tip of the right needle into the link
below the one presently on the left needle and slip it purl-wise onto the
right needle and off the left needle. Then I continue to knit the rest of
the stitches on the left needle.
It is , just like it would be if you slipped a stitch marker from one needle
to the other.
Above the needle are the links of the rows you have completed, on the needle
is the link representing the row you are currently knitting, and hanging
down from the needle are the links for the rows you have yet to knit.

Sounds interesting, but how can you knit, with it on the needle?
The stitches would not pass from one needle to the other!

Subject: [NFB-Blind-Crafters] Crafting Wish List?
What is on your crafting wish list, or do you have a cool tool you have in
your crafting tool box?
I have recently purchased a knitting row counter from Twice Sheared Sheep.
It is a chain made up of 10 links. I place it on my needle as a stitch
marker, usually just after the beginning border stitches. Each row or round
I move the chain to the next position. So for on row 1 it is in the first
link, then as I pass it on row 2 I slip it onto the other needle by
inserting the tip of the needle in the link below the one it is presently
in. It then indicates I am on the 2nd row. Continuing in this manner for
the 10 rows. Another way to use it is to put a locking stitch marker in the
link of the row that I will be doing something different. Such as if there
is a cable and it is made every 6th row, then put a locking stitch marker in
that 6th link. Then when I get to the link with the stitch marker it is
time to do the cable twist. Then in the next row I move it back to the
first link.
The row counters come in 3 sizes depending on what size range the needles
are that will be used for the project. They also come with several
different adornments in the 10th link, helping to know which is the top and
which is the bottom of the chain.
I will put the most recent email I received from the seller below my
signature.
I look forward to hearing what cool tools or fibers you have on your wish
list.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and warmest holiday wishes to you all,
Dixie
