[NFB-Blind-Crafters] Successful Saturday

Cindy,

How will you depict the temperature with the black, grey, white color scheme? And my other question. I have thought of doing a temperature blanket for my granddaughter’s first year but have been sort of stymie by whether to use the high or low for the day, a temperature average for the day, or both the high and low, giving each day 2 rows. So, the project is still in the brainstorming phase.

I do like the idea of using different stitches to make the blanket more tactile. I have also seen descriptions where a white row depicts a snow day, or a black row separates the months, A special color, perhaps a red-white-blue variegated to depict July 4th. So many elements to explore with one of these blankets.

Hi Cindy. I’ve thought about making a temperature blanket, but I want to make it more tactile than just changing colors, maybe by changing texture or yarn thickness. I’ll be real interested to hear what you come up with for yours. I hadn’t thought of making a block for each month. Sounds like a very interesting project.

I am making progress on the cardigan but no steps complete to report this week.

I have started planning a temperature blanket that will cover my first year in my new home. My first night here was July 24, 2024. We had plenty of changes in the temperature so it will be interesting. I am planning to do 12 blocks for the months with a border all around and I am considering putting Home and the date in the border. Since it will be a completed year by the time I start, I will write out the pattern. I am wanting to do this in shades of black, gray, and white but want a machine wash and dry yarn. So, I need to write out the pattern next and then decide on yarn.

I bought some lace yarn. I’ve always been afraid to try knitting lace with lace yarn, but Knitpicks is having a sale and I saw a pattern that sounds interesting, so I bought it. It’s knit on size 4 needles, which I know I can handle easily. It won’t be social knitting; there will be a fair bit to keep track of on each row, but it will be interesting and a new challenge.

I won’t start it for a while, because I’m finishing a sweater and then knitting a throw, but I should be able to get to it some time this fall, and then we’ll see.

Tracy
