Thanks Jeanette and Cindy. You’ve persuaded me, and I’ll do seed stitch all around the edges.

The seed stitch should "stay" as well as the garter and I personally like the look better, especially with it already on the sides.

I’d welcome some opinions.

I’m knitting a throw, which will be rectangular. I’m knitting the top bit in a wavy pattern, which is Feather and Fan on a stockinette base. Someone here posted it as part of a pattern, and it’s nice. I’ll probably put it on the bottom edge, too.

I’ve made the sides of the throw in seed stitch for 6 stitches. I’m debating making the top edge in garter stitch for maybe 3 inches, or sticking with seed stitch for 6 rows. I’m thinking a bit of garter might make the top stay better where a person puts it, say, if she wants to sit with it pulled up around her shoulders or something like that.

I have a shawl like that, and the garter does make it stay put, but it has maybe 12 inches of garter, and I don’t want more than say 3.

What do you knitters think?

Tracy
