I've made a variety of fingerless mitts, from fancy to plain. My hands get cold too, and the mitts warm them up without inhibiting my fingers. You can make the wristband as long as you want.
Most of mine are made with fingering yarn. The plain are made with leftover sock self-striping yarn, the less plain have a simple cable pattern, and the fanciest has a beautiful Celtic knot cable design.
If you want, I can hunt up some patterns.

Subject: [NFB-Blind-Crafters] looking for wrist warmers
Hi everyone,
I am wondering if anyone has knitted wrist warmers that are suitable for someone typing at the computer that really work?
I have a friend who does a lot of work at the computer and she is blind and her hands are always cold.
I’d like to make her something, but I want something someone has actually found useful.
Thanks.
Lovette
