[NFB-Blind-Crafters] long tail help

Hi there.
I am trying to learn this method and am so not getting it.
I understand to put the tail on my thumb, and the ball yarn away from me.
Do I pick up the stitch from my thumb so it is picking up the yarn like a loop, where or what side of my thumb do I do this if not?
Then I know to swing over and pick up the yarn from the ball like a yarn over.
Then I can’t figure out how to bring it back through.
I’ve spent hours trying this.
Any help would be so appreciated.
