[NFB-Blind-Crafters] Sewing stretchy fabric

When sewing stretchy knit fabric, it is important to use a ball point
needle.  It has been over 20 years since I made anything with a stretch,
knit fabric.  I found that using a standard needle did not give good
results.  The stitches often came undone from the fabric, while I was
sewing.

Yes, there is a full scene to sew. The two side lay nicely on each other
just ready for a needle and thread. So since I need this done, I thought to
make my stitches lose so the fabric will stretch. This material reminds me
of bathing suit that stretches all sorts of directions. I will sew on both
sides of the sceme. I can’t understand why the threads are there but nothing
held together from the manufacturer.  I will just do my best and hope it
stays together. I like this garment very much.

Hi Becky.

Is there fabric on both sides of the seam?  Sometimes, the outer edge of the
fabric turns into loose threads, and then there’s nothing on one side for
the seam thread to hold on to.

Otherwise, I’m not sure what to tell you.

Great, how do I sew stretchy material together. It looks to me like the
sceme just let go and the thread is still attached, but not to both sides of
this hole. Is there some special type of thread or sewing technique I need
to sew this sceme closed?

Cindy has slots available in the September chat schedule for a class or 2 on
hand sewing.

I can teach how to thread a needle, sew a seam or hem, how to sew on a patch
or apliqué, and, if people want, how to sew on a button.  I taught buttons
before, but it was a couple years ago.

Is there interest in any of these things?  If so, which ones?
