[NFB-Blind-Crafters] Crochet or knit-along

You slip a cowl over your head and arrange it like you would a necklace but obviously You have a lot of material to work with. Me, I am short so a thicker fluffy cowl does not look right. I role my cowl tucking the ends inside or laying against the sweater.

Now if you take a cowl and make it fluffy, you have to watch food doesn’t catch. My girlfriend cut hair for a living. I thought she had a shirt peaking out between her blue cowl. It was actually one of her customer hair she cut, brown. I just gently asked what the dark was in her cowl. She was so embarrassed. She said none of her sighted friends had the courtesy to tell her. Oh the downsides of a cowl or being large chested. My husband used to call it my shelf.

A cowl can be also slimming.

And Erica, if you heard

‘ cow ‘ originally, you’re not the only one! :) It took me a minute of wondering then me reading caracters by caracters to get it. The joy of screen-readers! ;)

I do have a question, for those who made cowls before. When it’s a seperate piece and not part of a sweater, how do you attach it?

Thank you!

Sonya

Erica, it’s not a cow. It’s a separate garment because sometimes you don’t want that extra hanging off the sweater, depending on how you are wearing it.

If you had a plain sweater. You would want a colorful cowl to brighten up your face. Or a cowl with the color in it that matched or fit with the color. I have a black shirt and I am making a short poncho with black gray white and a really pretty dark pink , variegated yarn that brightens the shirt. I think I am going to edge it in the pink. Pink is such a happy color.

Warm hugs,

Becky

I’m going to ask a stupid question. Why would one want a cow? I mean, sweaters come with them already. I would prefer the other project and add a day of the week like a Saturday where I have more time. The rest of the week is just too busy.

I thought of another knit-along possibility. I know a simple colorwork technique that comes out looking very nice. I have a pattern for a cowl using it. It’s a nice project, and doesn’t take a long time to finish.

Hi Henry.

I’ve been thinking for a while it might be fun to do some kind of knit or crochet-along, but I’m not sure what kind of project would let the biggest number of people join in.

We did knit-alongs at my local yarn store until sadly it closed. It was fun. It was a chance to learn some techniques and share the journey with other people. As I recall, we made a complicated shawl that taught me a lot of new techniques, an interesting cardigan, and a t-shirt top that proved very popular.

I think the tee might be a good group project. It’s got a nice eyelet detail along the seams, but is actually seamless, knitted top-down, and you get a nice top at the end.

Or we could make a crochet throw, like the one Becky just shared.

Or we could do something completely different.

What do people think? Would we like to do this? What should we make?

Tracy

Hi Tracy and Everyone, and, I hope that a pattern can be shared on this list so that others can enjoy making it too.

How about we have some sort of a Crochet Along?

I’m thinking I’d like to make a throw using crochet. I don’t mind some color changes, but I’m more interested in texture. Shells, or flowers, something like that.

Can anyone recommend a pattern like that?

I see lots of afghan books on BlindMice, but I don’t know if they’re what I want or not. And the ones I find on LionBrandYarn are based on color, not interesting textures.

Tracy
