[NFB-Blind-Crafters] Crochet or knit-along

I did not say that. I said we all have commitments and cannot always do what we wish. As hard as we all try none of us can accommodate everyone’s schedules. We can try, but life happens. I know, Erica, for example, that I can’t do Wednesdays. That’s no one’s fault, but it would be unreasonable for me to say no one can schedule classes I very much want to have attended. My only point to you is that you, like all of us, have had to not attend because things happened in life, and there’s nothing to be done about it except attend when we can. What you did not appreciate is that I pointed out that you have often not attended when you thought you would. That just makes you as human as the rest of us because life continues to happen and things get in our way.

Some people will send patterns out even if you don’t attend; some will not. That’s a teachers decision. But we all only have 24 hour days and we need to do the best we can and go on from there.

It is all we can do.

Jeanette

As a beginner knitter and not a fashion model, this makes a lot of sense. Thank you, Tracy. A lot of times I don’t do anything here because first off. I don’t have a schedule that works and second of all the projects are generally way above me. I did not appreciate the message. Jeanette sent me. If you don’t have the time available in your schedule, you just can’t attend. Since I started on this list, I’ve moved three times buried three relatives and tried to look for work plus lost some more vision. It’s not really fair to judge me because I didn’t join in on everything.

Hi Sonya.

I put on my coat, put on my hat, then slide my cowl over my head and around my neck. It’s like a very tall collar that covers my neck and face up to my nose.

Maybe other people do differently, but that’s what I do.

And Erica, if you heard

‘ cow ‘ originally, you’re not the only one! :) It took me a minute of wondering then me reading caracters by caracters to get it. The joy of screen-readers! ;)

I do have a question, for those who made cowls before. When it’s a seperate piece and not part of a sweater, how do you attach it?

Thank you!

Erica, it’s not a cow. It’s a separate garment because sometimes you don’t want that extra hanging off the sweater, depending on how you are wearing it.

If you had a plain sweater. You would want a colorful cowl to brighten up your face. Or a cowl with the color in it that matched or fit with the color. I have a black shirt and I am making a short poncho with black gray white and a really pretty dark pink , variegated yarn that brightens the shirt. I think I am going to edge it in the pink. Pink is such a happy color.

Warm hugs,

Becky

I’m going to ask a stupid question. Why would one want a cow? I mean, sweaters come with them already. I would prefer the other project and add a day of the week like a Saturday where I have more time. The rest of the week is just too busy.

I thought of another knit-along possibility. I know a simple colorwork technique that comes out looking very nice. I have a pattern for a cowl using it. It’s a nice project, and doesn’t take a long time to finish.

Hi Henry.

I’ve been thinking for a while it might be fun to do some kind of knit or crochet-along, but I’m not sure what kind of project would let the biggest number of people join in.

We did knit-alongs at my local yarn store until sadly it closed. It was fun. It was a chance to learn some techniques and share the journey with other people. As I recall, we made a complicated shawl that taught me a lot of new techniques, an interesting cardigan, and a t-shirt top that proved very popular.

I think the tee might be a good group project. It’s got a nice eyelet detail along the seams, but is actually seamless, knitted top-down, and you get a nice top at the end.

Or we could make a crochet throw, like the one Becky just shared.

Or we could do something completely different.

What do people think? Would we like to do this? What should we make?

Tracy

Hi Tracy and Everyone, and, I hope that a pattern can be shared on this list so that others can enjoy making it too.

How about we have some sort of a Crochet Along?

I’m thinking I’d like to make a throw using crochet. I don’t mind some color changes, but I’m more interested in texture. Shells, or flowers, something like that.

Can anyone recommend a pattern like that?

I see lots of afghan books on BlindMice, but I don’t know if they’re what I want or not. And the ones I find on LionBrandYarn are based on color, not interesting textures.

Tracy
