I agree with Dixie.  Cables are not as hard as they seem (unless you manage
to drop stitches without noticing). 

If there's interest, I could teach a class making fingerless mitts with a
simple staghorn cable pattern on the back.  If some don't like mitts, it's
easy to extend the thumb and fingers and make mittens.  I knit them in the
round, but they could be knit flat and seamed, too.
