The chain row counter is a lightweight chain of 10 links with a little charm at one end, so you know which end is which.  In between each link is a small plastic circle with a print number on it.  Not useful to me, but whatever.  There’s also a little thing hanging on the chain that you can move to mark that you’re counting past 10, but I haven’t used that.

The chain links come in different sizes for different needle sizes.  I bought one for medium-sized needles and one for larger needles.  The larger links will fit any needle size, of course.

There are lots of charms to choose from.  I chose the little dog and the sheep.

This is how it works.  You put the counter at the beginning of the row.  When you come up to it, you put the right-hand needle through the next link in the chain and slip the counter from the left needle to the right.  Then, when you want to know what row you’re on, you count the links from the beginning, and the one that’s on your needle is the row number you’re at.  Very simple, and very portable.

Each counter costs $25, but they look like they will last.
