KK could do an outreach project to connect with NFB Chapters.  Current KK
members who enjoy public speaking could do a 15-20-minute presentation about
KK to interested Chapters.  The presentation could include a brief history
of KK; a few accomplishments and success stories; info on any upcoming
planned activities; and how to sign-up.  

 

In order for this to work, it would need to be coordinated by you or another
KK member.  A list of current members interested in speaking would need to
be compiled including their availability and their Chapter affiliation.
Reaching out to local Chapters could be accomplished in 2 ways.  Current KK
Members could inquire with their Chapter President to see if there is
interest in having a KK presentation at an upcoming meeting.  Another option
is to send an e-mail to the Chapter President's list offering virtual
presentations and in-person presentations based on availability of KK
members.  When Chapter Presidents contact the Outreach Project coordinator,
they match a KK member from the speakers list to the interested Chapter.

Our NFB national board has decided every group has to submit an annual
report.  Part of it is about what we did at convention.  I plan to say we
didn't have a meeting, but members who attended had a get-together.  Did
that happen?  I hope so, and I hope you all had fun meeting each other.

Another part is talking about what we achieved last year and what we plan
for the upcoming year, and how we've connected with the larger NFB.

I talked with attendees at the Senior Retreat about our group and let them
know they can keep crafting even if they've become blind.  A couple people
joined our group after the retreat.

We've had some classes and a knit-along, and we've revived our regular
chats.  More people are engaged in our activities, and people who never
taught a class for us before have led classes and are willing to lead more.

Members have also taught me how to host a Zoom meeting and create a
recording.

 

For the upcoming year, I hope to continue our growth and get more people
engaged in making things happen.  More classes, continuing the interesting
chats Cindy is organizing, and perhaps working on a craft people are
interested in but most don't have much experience with, like sewing.

I would like to connect more with the larger NFB, but I'm not sure how to do
that.

I welcome ideas.  I also welcome ideas for goals for the upcoming year.

Should we have a meeting to talk about our group, or is talking on the
listserve sufficient?

 

It was wonderful reading people's memories of how Joyce helped them know
that blindness doesn't stop people from crafting.  That is what our group is
for.  I think our best way to honor Joyce's memory is to carry on with the
work she started and keep growing and improving the group she started.
