[NFB-Blind-Crafters] Putting in a lifeline

When I insert my Barber cord, I put a tapestry needle into the end of the barber cord, point end in and eye end out. I slide all my stitches onto the cable of my circular needle, so they have the most space in the stitches to weave through. Then I weave the eye end through the stitches.
This of course means that the stitches have to be at least something knit on a 4 or 5 to have large enough stitches to fit this through.
If the stitches are knit on something smaller than that I would definitely use the 000 circular needle.
Inserting a lifeline is definitely tedious, but after that next row is knit, it is reassuring.

Hi Lovette.
Yes, I have a can of barber cord. It is nice. This time I decided to use a cable instead. The cable seems thinner than the barber cord I have. But perhaps I’ll try the cord when I move my lifeline to the next place.
It was a little easier putting in the cable than the cord, because I just screwed a thin needle onto the cable end and slid the needle through the stitches. With the cord, I either have to jam a double-point into the cord end, or poke the cord through the stitches one or 2 at a time. Maybe I’m missing a trick with the cord?

Have you heard of barber?
It is a spull of flexible stuff and even if you get it in your knitting, it seems to slide out nicely.
You can buy it on Amazon.
I think the first row after a lifeline just is a little difficult.

Unfortunately, that is the downside of lifelines.
The only other thing I can suggest is using a 000 40” circular needle as your lifeline. As it is finer, it will take up less room in those stitches.

Annette reminded me that a lifeline is a very good idea when working with even simple lace, so I put one in my Kanak shawl, but knitting back on the row with the lifeline was very tight. Is there a way to put in a lifeline without making knitting the next row difficult?
I used a free cable for my lifeline, so it’s not real thick, but thick enough to tighten things up on the next row.
