My local knitting group met yesterday. Our organizer likes to bring
something to teach us, and yesterday she showed a Youtube video where the
person talked about ripping out knitting that isn't going well. It was just
what I needed to hear. The person said she'd ripped out 2 sweaters she'd
made with some yarn because they just weren't coming out right, then finally
found the right pattern for the yarn and made something she loves. She said
to just stop and pull it out if it's not right, because, if you go on and
finish it anyway, you won't wear it, so what's the point? She said, even if
you have to rip the whole thing out, you've learned something in the
process.
It reminded me of the Buddhist monks who spend days constructing a beautiful
design made of sand, appreciate it for an hour or 2, then sweep it away.
So, I will tranquilly rip out the part of my tank top that is not right, and
make it again into something I'll wear and enjoy.
