What project? What meeting are we having Oct. 10 or 11, and with whom to discuss what?

I spoke to Brinda, and suggested a Zoom meeting on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. October 10 or 11 are good for both of us. Do those who wish to attend have a preference?

Hi Tracy, yes, I’m interested in this.

This project sounds very interesting. I’d like to set up a Zoom meeting to speak with Brinda about accessibility to crafting, if others are interested too. What do you say?

Hello,

I recently discovered NFB Blind Crafters/Krafters Korner and have been exploring the tremendous amount of practical knowledge your community has developed around accessible crafting.

I’m developing the Textile Access Pilot, an initiative examining accessibility throughout knitting, crochet, loom knitting, and other textile crafts. The project looks beyond individual adaptive tools to the complete crafting experience: pattern accessibility, tactile and nonvisual instruction, yarn identification and organization, workspace setup, dexterity, cognitive accessibility, equipment, and independent participation

I also run Uglier Than Homemade Sin, an adaptive fiber arts project centered on accessible and beginner-friendly crafting.

I am especially interested in learning from blind crafters rather than assuming that sighted designers, manufacturers, or accessibility professionals can determine what people need on their own. Some of the most innovative solutions I have encountered have been developed within the blind crafting community itself.

I would love to connect with someone from NFB Blind Crafters about the barriers your members encounter, adaptations that have proven particularly useful, and what you wish yarn, tool, pattern, and craft companies understood about accessibility.

If there is interest, I would also be glad to explore ways the Textile Access Pilot could support your work through resource sharing, accessible product evaluation, community feedback, or future collaboration.

Thank you for creating a place where blind crafters can share, learn, and teach.

Best,

Brinda Dungan
