There are 2 plastic canvas things to do. You can make a picture frame easily out of 2 pieces of plastic canvas. You cut out the part where the picture will show, and leave a border of a few holes. You work those holes in whatever stitch you want. Then you put a blank piece on the back and stitch the 2 pieces together. Usually I use part of the picture.

The second one is more complicated, but you use 3 pictures, and when you stitch the 3 pieces of canvas together they kind of curve. It is a little difficult to describe.

My Mom also made a 2 sided picture frame from tooth picks overlapping kind of like a log cabin. It was shaped like a pentagon. It is way too fussy for me, and it takes a bunch of gluing which I hate.

Bernice

From: NFB-Blind-Crafters <nfb-blind-crafters-bounces@nfbnet.org> On Behalf Of Tracy Carcione via NFB-Blind-Crafters
Sent: Saturday, January 4, 2025 9:56 AM
To: 'List for Blind Crafters and Artists' <nfb-blind-crafters@nfbnet.org>
Cc: carcione@access.net
Subject: [NFB-Blind-Crafters] Saving stuff for crafts

Bernice, your idea of saving greeting cards to use in crafts is interesting, and I too would like to know how people re-use stuff creatively.

I used to buy decorated holiday wreaths and save the decorations I liked when it was time to take down the wreath. Now I buy plain wreaths and use my saved stuff to decorate them the way I like. And I take apart the old wreath and use the pine branches as mulch for my blueberries, which like an acidic soil.

This also gives me a wreath ring, but I haven’t figured out how to make my own wreath yet. Making some kind of summer or spring wreath would be fun.

And, a good while ago I took a KK class on making plarn—a kind of craft “yarn” made from old plastic bags. I used it to crochet a sit-upon mat, which I still use.

I hope other people will share ways to re-use stuff for crafting.

Tracy
