When my daughter was in early elementary school, she asked me to make her a blanket. We went to the store so she could select a yarn color for me to use. I anticipated that she would pick a light blue as that was her favorite color at the time. She did pick light blue, as well as hot pink and black. It took me weeks to come up with a way of combining these colors. I designed a crocheted square that was made up of a 5-inch diameter circle inside a 2-inch-wide square boarder. The circles had a 1-inch hot pink center surrounded by a 2-inch black circle. The square frame was light blue. Although, that being said, one of my favorite Afghans my mother-in-law crocheted was made of granny squares. The insides of each square being a mish mosh of colors, used up bits and pieces of yarn. I have lots of small balls of yarn myself, but I don\u2019t have a large amount in a neutral like black, white or grey. I could certainly buy some, and it would be a fun project, but I feel ambivalent about buying more yarn to use up yarn, if you get my drift. Though white and grey are always useful. I think it\u2019s called the scrappy blanket.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>You crochet a blanket, alternating a row of single crochet and a row of double crochet. Then you take pieces of yarn long enough to go across the blanket and weave them through the double crochet rows. You can then crochet a border or leave the ends of the yarn pieces as fringe. It said to not use yarn thinner than DK, and to make either the blanket or the scraps in a neutral color.
