Hi Josh thanks for your message. It is possible for a totally blind person to become a certified braille transcriber. You must submit an enrollment application through the National Library Service For The Blind and Print Disabled. You must state whether or not you are a braille user. After your appication has been received, you will receive your Instructor's manual from the National Federation Of The Blind. Please be advised that this course consists of twenty lessons. Each lesson contains a set of practice exercises that must be mailed to the Nfb headquarters. I would also advise you to read the Instructor's manual carefully before you begin this course.

I began taking this course in the Summer of 2017, but Nls had to bid on a new contract with the Nfb, so I could not continue the program until last year. You must supply your own Perkins braille writer and paper to complete this course. Please note that each written exercise must be properly centered according to the Instructor's manual.
