Dear NFB National Convention Attendees,
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee is proud to invite you to a special
book club session featuring Dr. Angela Frederick, author of "Disabled
Power: A Storm, A Grid, and Embodied Harm in the Age of Disaster" (New York
University Press).
Date: Sunday, July 5
Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Location: Room 207
During this engaging session, Dr. Frederick will expound on her vital
research highlighting the firsthand experiences of people with disabilities
and parents of people with disabilities who lived through the catastrophic
Winter Storm Uri in Texas in February 2021. The book powerfully examines
infrastructure failure, systemic vulnerabilities, and the deep resilience
of our community in the face of climate disasters.
Reading the book beforehand is highly encouraged to enrich our
conversation, but it is absolutely not a requirement to attend. All are
welcome to join, listen, and participate in the discussion. For those who
wish to read it, "Disabled Power" is readily available and accessible
through Bookshare and Kindle.
For questions or additional information, please contact Daphne Mitchell at:
(505) 226-6140 or daurora.mitchell914 at gmail.com.
We look forward to an insightful evening of shared community conversation.
We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Dr. Angela Frederick and Daphne Mitchell
