I agree with Janet here. However, I think your learning of the manual
alphabet would probably be the quickest solution. I'm sure that she
already knows it, if she's a fluent signer. Also, should you decide to
pursue further learning of sign language, learning the hand shapes (in
this case the letters), is a good start. I know that NLS's web braille
has a book which describes the various handshapes for the letters, but
the name of it escapes me at the moment.
Tactile finger spelling when done with the right person can be both a
good bonding experience and also offer you more private communication.
I mean, not much of the sighted and hearing public knows the manual
alphabet, so you can carry on conversations with others who know it
without others even knowing what you're saying. Also comes in handy in
loud environments such as clubs.
