Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I got out of the hospital last
night at 8:00PM-too late to pick up Destiny at the Vets. I picked her up
this morning. I have to have IV antibiotics at home for the next two weeks.
I am feeling better but get tired easily since I spent the past week in bed
and didn't get any exercise. I need to purchase the furniture for my
apartment today so it can be delivered this weekend and I have my technology
assessment at my internship site tomorrow, which I hope I am up to with the
my Braille Sense due to my training cut short.

Hey all,
I talked to Janice earlier today. She's still in the hospital.
She was hoping to get out, today, but there's a problem with the
medication the doctors want her to take when she leaves. Apparently,
it's something that's not too easy to get, and has to be used in an
iv.

She's hoping to get out tomorrow; she has a lot to do before her
internship starts next week.

We're going to MD, tomorrow and hope to see her while we're there.
I'll try to keep you updated; the friend we'll be staying with has
internet, so it should be possible.

Otherwise, we'll hunt up a Starbucks, or something.

Hey Marsha,

When I saw Janice at db camp, she had a really bad cough; even worse
than mine, and that's saying something. She was being treated for
MERSA and they weren't having much luck getting rid of it. She wasn't
much better at the NFB comvention. I've been having some lung
problems of my own, so we were both coughing a lot, in Orlando.
Because of our similar problems,, we've been keeping up with each
other, to see what treatments, etc, we were going through.

Janice had a bronchoscopy, Tuesday; the doctor didn't like what he
found and put her straight into the hospital. Yeasterday, she was
still waiting to hear what the results of the cultures from the
bronchoscopy were.

Janice is in isolation, because of the MERSA, but she does have her
cellphone and can talk ok.
She doesn't have internet access, though, and she's not happy about that.

Poor Destiny is boarding at the vet's; so I don't imagine she's too
happy, either.

Janice is hoping she'll be out of the hospital in time to start her
internship on time. Jim and I will be in MD next week, and we are
planning to see Janice while we're there; we have some unfinished
things to see to.

Hi Lydia,
That is too bad to hear about Janice. Poor thing was suppose to start
her
internship soon too. How did you learn of this bad news? Can she talk on
the
phone? What are the tests for? And is there anything us up here can do?

any further information is greatly appreciated.

If and when you speak to Janice again, please tell her that her
Southeastern
PA friends are praying for her returned health to be soon. That we all
love
and want to hear from her soon.

Thanks for letting me,

Hey Marsha,

If BVS can get an SSP program started, that would be a big help.
Since I use an FM system and am still verbal, my JIm acts as my SSP
when needed; but we need them for others.

Keep me informed about any progress.

BTW, Janice Toothman is in the hospital; in case you didn't know.
She's not sure how long she'll be there; it depends on the results of
some tests.

If my internet connection doesn't fail again (it's been in and out for
weeks) she wants me to notify the DB list. She has no wireless
connection there (she's in isolation at the moment).

My main medical problem is lung inflammation, and should start to
improve, now that I can use my arthritis med again; the inflammation
is being caused my arthritis, and now that infections have all been
gotten rid of, I can get back to the med that will clear it up.

Keep in touch,

Lydia

Lydia,
Let me catch you up on a few things. Over here in SE PA, there is an
organization called DeafCan. They are launching a SSP program in a few
weeks. Back in March, this group, met with BVS to talk about their
support
for an SSP program. Recently Joe and I attending an meeting, BVS is
planning
an SSP program too. Unfortunately the BVS outlook will take a bit
longer.
They have a 3year plan. The first will be a research/information
gathering
year. Second and third year, will be then a demonstration of services.
The
first stage will begin October 1st and go to September of 2014. that
is
when
they will decided if they can further with a program. If they do it
will
begin in October or November of 2014. The DeafCan has created an
advisory
committee to help guide the new SSP program that will be in this part
of
the
state. So now to our meeting at convention, I have spoken to people
within
that advisory committee about a possible presentation, and they are
all
for
it. I know that was one of the things Jim and Lynn wanted is a
presentation
from them. I am sure that we can advertise our meeting through BVS and
ODHH.
Next week I will contact Jim, to see if he is willing to firm up a
time
for
our meeting at convention. It would be great if we could come up with
a
flyer for the meeting.

I am sorry to hear about your health issues. I hope you feel better
soon.
I'll be praying that doctors can help.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I know I wrote alot,
and
sort
of condensed through much of it.

Take care,

Hey Marsha,

When we were in Orlando, I went to the NFBDB division meeting. One
of
the main topics was about talking to the state affiliates about
starting their own db division; the idea being that the more people
we
had, the more influence we'd have.

Many of the members agreed to talk to the state presedents concerning
contacting db members about forming devisions at the state level.

Last week, the NFBDB president sent out letters to all state
presidents, concerning this issue.

Jim Antonacci was on my list of states to follow up on. I talked to
Jim, via email, last week and he asked if we should have a meeting at
our convention about it; I said that would be good. That's probably
why he contacted you. I'm glad to hear he had a chance to get things
started before surgery and he'd be out of commission for a while.

Unfortunately, I'm no techie, either, so I can't help with the
technical stuff, either.

I've had some medical issues, the last 4 months, and I'm still not up
to full speed, yet; but let me know what I can do to help and I'll do
what I can.

Thanks for being willing to help with this project.

All,
On Saturday I had a long conversation with Jim Antonacci about
potentially
having a deafblind meeting at convention. Jim has also mentioned
that
he
could line up a few technology venders specifically for the
deafblind
group.
I also know that BVS/OVR would like to get others in the area
involved
in
this meeting as well. I am looking into perhaps having a person who
can
speak on the need for, and potential SSP program starting and so
on.

What does everyone think?Would there be help from you all in helping
me
plan
and organize this meeting?

I know that we all have different communication needs, and those
coming
might be as diverse. It would be great if we could link up an FM
system
or
reciever system for the meeting and perhaps general session. As this
is
not
my particular techie area, I have no clue what is required.

I also know that there are other DeafBlind or Hard of hearing folks
in
our
affiliate. At this point I don't have any other addresses other than
who
I
am including on this email. If you are in contact with a DB or HOH
person
who would be interested in the meeting at state convention. Please
forward
my email to them.

I look forward to hearing from you all. Please reply to all so that
we
can
stay in the conversation.

Thank you,
Marsha Drenth
