Maurice;
Thank you for asking these questions. These are the questions we need
to resolve.

The National Federation of the Blind, demands equality, security, and
oppurtunity for every blind person. Our responsibilty is to acquire
the proper training to attain the skills necessary to access the
world. Blindness skills rely on hearing therefore deaf blind people
do not have access to the same skills of blindness as other members of
the NFB. If deaf blind people are denied the same oppurtunities as
other NFB members, then the NFB is guilty of the same discramatory
practices that have burdened its own members.

The Helen Keller National Center is not an advocacy organization in
the same fashion as NFB. The AADB at this time in its history, does
not have the power to advocate in the same fashion as the NFB. We hope
that these two organizations will join with us as we gain mommetum
toward our goal.

Things are always changing. It is our responsibilty to secure equal
oppurtunity for all our blind brothers and sisters who are deaf or
hard of hearing. The NFB's legislative agenda has already been
established for the 2014 Washington seminar. The deaf blind issues
will not be a apart of that agenda. The NFB decides annually its
Washington agenda. Deaf blind issues will not be brought to Washington
until the time is right. We hope that members such as yourself come to
see the deaf blind as equal citizens, deserving of the same rights and
oppurtunites as other blind citizens.

Again, thank you for asking the obvious questions. Please do continue
to contemplate issues pertaining to members of the deaf blind
division. Continue to post your questions here.

Sincerely,

Cathy Miller
