hello, I have been of course dictating emails and Facebook posts for large part of my day. All of this of course is the urge my US Sen. here in Washington state where I live to remove two things from the workforce reinvestment act. It of course is better known by its US Senate Bill number S1356. What the Senate committee that meets on Wednesday to discuss and vote on this measure wants to do is to have language in the bill that says that it is okay for folk rehab and/or a state blindness agency to have as an option replacement or set minimum wages are paid. Do you guys think that this is a good thing? For those of us who are deaf blind I don't think it's such a good thing at all. In fact I don't think is a good thing for any disabled person. I strongly believe there ought to be one wage law for everybody. Regardless of disability. The other thing that this proposed reauthorization would possibly do is transfer the rehabilitation services administration which is the agency that gives states a great deal of their rehabilitation dollars from the US Department of Education, to the US Department of Labor. In case you're wondering, this is the same agency that takes the certificates from employers who are requesting to pay sub minimum wages to blind and otherwise disabled people. I think this would of course be another bad move. Because I fear funds for people who are pursuing higher education, funds for people like myself who are taking some classes to aid in finding gainful full-time employment, what probably dry up. So if you haven't read a neo-Lewises posts too many NFB lists and if you live in the states where committee members are from go ahead look down that list and write the senator's office and their staffers and of course give them a call tomorrow. And if you have Facebook accounts posted on your own page that I have done with my status update. And if you have questions on how to get on Facebook and create an identity on Facebook and for myself and others can certainly help. Also with you on twitter you can also look in the most recent versions of the email from Mr. Lewis to send a tweet directly to your senators again if you have a senator who serves on the committee. And if no one has seen this email yet please let me know and I will be more than happy to forward the text of the most recent email to you. Come and join us, who are working very hard in the NFB to make sure that set minimum wages are a footnote in history books and not our current reality for some. Sincerely Maurice.
