Honestly, these kinds of conversations are what turn me totally off about getting a CI, or at least it's one reason.
Please keep in mind, these are people's bodies you are discussing. People have the right to do what they please with their own bodies, and if someone gets a CI, which gives them the ability to hear environmental noises only, and they still use interpreters, it's really nobody's business but their's. Same if someone gets a CI and can hear speech but still prefers an interpreter. It's their choice, and their comfort level. I believe that messages are going back and forth about members of this list, and if it were me being talked about in this way, it would make me very angry and uncomfortable.
I have 2 good friends with CI's, they both, to some degree use ASL interpreters. Sometimes they wear the CI, sometimes, not. Nobody has the right to judge another's choices was it relates to someone's body or their request for accomidations.

How long ago did they receive their implants? What is their native language mode, sign or oral? One list member said she or someone else had an implant with only one electrode. I heave 22 electrodes on each side. Also, is Katy's and Tracy's vision stable? If they can see enough to rely on sign language, that is just fine. If their vision gets worse, they will make the decision to return to the audi for more adjustments to the software, i.e., volume, etc. If they have a current generation sound processor, they will be able to make the switch when they need to.
