[nfb-db] Hearing Aids

I wasn't referring to HK, I was referring to your state agency. They should
be able to help you with your hearing aids. And if the person that is
serving you and not doing you justice by working with your hearing loss then
it is time to move on to someone who is more knowledgeable and well-trained
in the matter of hearing loss.

I didn't know anything about HK until 2010, so don't feel alone. There are
lots of people out there who don’t' know about HK. Some state won't send
their clients because it is very expensive. I've had many instances in
which something was not provided and I learned that I had to 'justify' what
I needed and when I justified it, I thought in line with employment and
education. In other words, how can I use that equipment for a job, how can
I use it in class; or for my schooling? State is not going to consider
independence only vocational goals of employment and education.

PS - I wasn't connected with HKNC till about 2000. I didn't know it
existed. My state counselor had me at Helen Keller services for the blind
from age 15 on.

Trish, are you getting assistance from the state for your hearing issues?
If so, then I would mention that your current HA provider is not doing his
job and they can send you to someone else. In my opinion, if that person
feels that all who have hearing loss hear the same way is very narrow
minded. You do have a right to 'fire' him and find another audiologist or
hearing aid specialist.

Wow here in where I am, the hearing aid person with whom I go, doesn't
seem to take seriously or I don't know, but he thinks every hearing aid
person hears the same; for instance he doesn't have equipment like you guys
mention to evaluate, thus he leaves it to me to tell him if Ihear sounds
OKor not. another thing? I seem to know more than he does, especially
because he doesn't seem to understand when I tell him of my MT setting on my
old hearing aids; he insists that there's no such thing!
