Hi!

I just used zoom this past July where I attended the Nfb’s virtual convention. I myself am hard of hearing and found that Jaws would speak during individuals leaving and coming to a room. So what I did was call via my iphone and listen to the meetings.

I don’t know how efficient Jaws would be for persons with hearing difficulty using zoom. I guess for people with hearing loss would have to find other ways to listen into meetings.

Maurice:

I am in constant contact with my affiliate President, Denise Valkana. According to Denise our chapter President is looking for volunteers to Caption the meeting via the chat box. The affiliate has not offered to pay for the CART to caption meetings. This is already a very difficult situation. I have not been able to attend a single chapter meeting with accessibility since they started meeting virtually due to lack of access. My question is, and maybe this is something the DeafBlind division should be addressing, WHY doesn't Zoom offer captioning through the platform itself? If other online platforms such as YouTube and Hulu and Netflix can Caption and provide descriptive video why can't Zoom? I think it is time to bring this matter up to the division. Something needs to be done.

Maurice, I would be delighted to have you assist in attempting to educate Kaye Baker. Email me of flist and we can talk.

Thanks,

Tracie

Hello:

I use the Zoom platform with Captions and Transcript. If the Captions are too fast to keep up, then I open the Transcript and view the transcript to catch up with the conversation. However, my Jacksonville Chapter President refused to pay for Captions for their Zoom meetings. She stated "It (the cost) is too much for the Chapter to consider". It made me and another Chapter member who is Deafblind feel as if we are an "expense".

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone on this list would share how you are using the zoom platform. Any suggestions or tips for using the Zoom platform is appreciated. How have you manage to utilize the zoom and the following: close caption, chat box and adjust the volume. For me Sometimes it is hard to hear everyone clearly on the call. And a bit challenging to use the chat feature with voice over while people are talking . I do not use captioning or interpreters. However, I was wondering if I could use the close caption with voice over and listen that way. Also, what is Cart? So, Which is better a computer, iPad or iPhone. Thanks in advance for your response.
