[NFB-DB] Side Walkers

Hello Tony,

My situation is different from some others, but I am working with the hemi
walker, so am adding what I can.

I don't have vertigo. I do have complete blindness, severe hearing loss in
both ears, and a mobility problem rooted in cancer, radiation, and multiple
breaks of one bone (left femur.)

After using a walker exclusively for three years, and thus being unable to
use a white cane or guide dog for that time, discovering the hemi walker a
couple months ago has been the most joyful news on my radar for some time.

Because my leg injury requires the hemi walker to be on my dominant side,
I'm having to learn to use the long cane in my nondominant hand, which is
kind of tricky, but it feels wonderful, and the support is amazingly good.

Be sure always to check that the walker is fully open, and the the correct
side of it faces your body.

Walking and not connecting with the hemi walker's feet takes a little
practice, but you can do it.

I'd love to hear how it goes for you.

I bought mine on Amazon for around $30.

Best,

Deborah

Still exploring ways to manage my vertigo while being able to still use a
long white cane. I came across a hemi walker for one armed use that I'm
going to try out which should allow me to keep using my white cane with more
balance than a single tipped support cane. Might be a little slower but
hopefully more stable. Anything to reduce the number of dents I keep
accumulating on my body every week.

Has anyone else tried something like this?
